HI,

Bala (the founder and fearless leader of UP) sent me the following:

The Christian community in India is well dispersed so it is not going to be easy targeting them.

Some states - Kerala ( south west) and in the North East have higher proportion of Christians. ( see Demographics section).

Interestingly Christmas celebrations have become mainstream in Indian cities. Many middle class families nowadays keep a Christmas tree. I met one Christian lady and she told me that nowadays more non-christians come for the midnight mass than Christians.

Hi Budelberger,

Pay Pal also gives me less on my exchange from Canadian $ to US $ :-(

WE do pay something to Pay Pal. I tyhink Kiva is the only organization that gets free transactions. I'm not sure how much, but I think it is about 2%.

PayPal is expensive ; the rate used for my first guarantee, 3 January, was 1 Euro = 1,39533 USD ; my newspaper says (31 December) : 1 Euro = 1,432 USD ; PayPal : +2,6 % ; does UP pay something to PayPal for transactions ? (Kiva : no.)

As I think about the question, donations are a blessing. How did Christ hand out blessings?

I see though that there is a group of atheists. We don't want to discourage them from donating.

As I understand it, (correct me if I am wrong), help in India is assigned by religious groups. Since Christians are the poorest ones, esp. in SW India, they have the least amount of help coming. Of course, no one would want to exclude people of other faiths who are needy but I think it would be wonderful to take care of the Christians there. If the decision went otherwise, it wouldn't stop me from donating though.

You guys are way too funny! I am tickled by the response that we are getting.
:-)

I have a couple of questions that I would like to pose to the group (UP Christians) and get your thoughts. As we are limited to space here, I will do one at a time

Several people wondered if we could direct our loans to poor Christians through U.P.

Question #1) Should we target our lending to Christians in particular? Why or why not?

Looking forward to civil and intelligent discourse.
