allocating resources

Just a quick question. From an admin (or any other) point of view, does it make any differnce if someone lends $100 to one borrower or $10 to 10 borrowers.

BTW, I told my one new person about UP last week. ANyone else?

NOt sure if everyone will see this. Thanks to Andreas and Sverre for reposponding to my last post.

I guess I am part of the problem. I haven't recruited anyone yet. I think I am waiting for UP to get maore established. I am worried that my friends and collegues will get on board and then UP will evaporate - not because of any corrupt or immoral (or illegal) reasons, but just from a lack of interest. Of course my inaction is part of the problem!

I will commit to try and get… Continue

Hi Pete,

Thank you.Yes, I am enjoying the mild winter in India. On Dec 31, the minimum temperature in Mumbai was a mild 15C.

Please feel free to pass on your suggestions. I am on work. I may take a little longer to respond to suggestions as a lot of my time goes in traveling and meeting people.

I have earmarked two days for holidays, the 15th, and the 16th of January when we plan to visit Bhubaneswar, Puri, Konark ( the Sun temple) and Chilka lake in the state of Orissa. (

The 2nd MFI we are exploring to sign up is called Adhikar and they are based in Bhubaneswar -
Their website is not working for some reason. I will be meeting them on the 14th.

Yes, Shubha is wife. We are enjoying our stay in India. Currently we are staying with Shubha's parents in Mumbai.

Best regards

Thanks for the warm welcome Pete! Interesting that you've been to India 30 years ago; I'm sure if you went today you'd be amazed by how much has changed, but after a while you'd be equally amazed at how some things haven't.
Regards, Jaison

Hi Peter,

Hi Peter,

Supriya is right. There seems to be a problem with the mail server with the website hosting company. We encountered a similar problem last week, but then it resolved itself without us doing anything so we do not know what caused it. We are working on it right now.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for purchasing a gift certificate. We are sorry that you still haven't received the emails with the steps for redemption. Our email server seems to be sluggish and we are working on it. Your gift certificate is safe and you will receive the email soon.

We can catch up next time we're online together.

Hi Peter,

The website ( and the ning site ( have different sign ons. If one signs up on the website one does not become a member on the ning site and vice versa.

Both the systems create a member profile instantly. I think this aspect has created confusion for a lot of people. I will add a not clarifying this point.

Hope I answered your question.

Andreas Stephens;

I an still marketing UP and is getting traffic from Norway intoo the site, but it seems to me that to few sign on.

In my opinion long loans of 18 months can bes best for the lenders, BUT, i am 100% certain that this long loans doesnt "sell" good to microlenders, Microlender prefer more "action" and shorter loans. New lenders will probarbly prefer as short loans as possible with a duration from 3 months - 18. Alos other people who are uncertain about the new site, will prefer shorter duartions on loans to test the site
